Patrick has a broad civil practice and regularly advises on and appears in matters involving real property, insolvency, building and construction, wills and estates, professional negligence, insurance and consumer law.

Insolvency

Patrick has acted for creditors, debtors, liquidators and administrators in various aspects of insolvency and bankruptcy.  He is often briefed to both pursue and defend voidable transaction claims arising out of liquidations and appears in a wide range of applications arising out of insolvencies.  Patrick prioritises both efficiency and attention to detail in providing assistance to those dealing with insolvency and bankruptcy laws.

Real Property

Patrick has acted for vendors, purchasers, mortgagees and caveators in a range of disputes involving real property.  Patrick regularly advises on issues arising during conveyancing transactions and is familiar with all aspects of the Victorian legislation governing the transfer of land.  He has a particular focus on intergenerational disputes involving real property.

Patrick also provides advice in respect of residential and retail tenancies.

Building and Construction

Patrick has acted for owners, builders and subcontractors in a wide range of both domestic and commercial building disputes.  He regularly appears at VCAT in domestic building disputes and appears in the County and Supreme Courts in commercial building matters.  Patrick prides himself on his ability to give timely and precise advice on all aspects of building contracts.

Wills and Estates

Patrick has acted in a number of disputes involving wills and estates.  He regularly acts for claimants in testators family maintenance claims and can assist in any matter involving the Administration and Probate Act 1958 (Vic).  Patrick provides timely and thorough advice and assistance to executors, administrators and beneficiaries.

Prior to the Bar

Prior to coming to the Bar, Patrick was an associate to Her Honour Judge Kennedy (now the Honourable Justice Kennedy), then Judge in Charge of the Commercial Division at the County Court of Victoria.  During his time in this role, Patrick gained experience in commercial trials and in a wide range of interlocutory hearings.  Previously, Patrick worked as a solicitor at William Roberts Lawyers in Melbourne, where he worked on insurance, insolvency and general commercial disputes.  As a solicitor, Patrick gained advocacy experience in both the Federal Circuit Court and the Magistrates’ Court.

Patrick studied at Monash University where he received degrees in Law (with first class honours) and Arts.
