Jim takes a broad range of work focusing on commercial litigation, particularly superannuation-related matters.

Before coming to the Bar in March 2000, Jim practised in financial services law, including superannuation, life insurance and managed investments. At the Bar he has continued this work for all relevant entities, including trustees, investment managers, members, claimants, executors, auditors and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. He is a longstanding member of the Superannuation Lawyers Study Group.

Jim was the Deputy Chair of the Corporations and Securities Law Section of the Commercial Bar Association until late 2014.

He takes pro-bono matters.

Jim has trained many lawyers in Advocacy on behalf of the Leo Cussen Institute and the Victorian Bar, including through the Bar Readers Course and practitioners from Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. He sat on the Victorian Bar’s International Advocacy Training Committee between 2017-2019.

Jim has mentored or is mentoring lawyers practising in the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea and law students at the University of Melbourne. He has given a number of seminars and papers which can be found here.
