Chris Gunson SC is well known for his commercial, public law, and criminal law expertise. He has a particular specialty in any matters involving complex trusts. He practises widely in courts and administrative tribunals with a focus on matters that relate to professional discipline. He also has extensive experience in complex environment law matters, and has a strong interest in international humanitarian law. Chris is a former Tasmanian chairperson of the Australian Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Committee.

Chris has a wealth of experience as counsel at trial and on appeal in the Supreme Court of Tasmania, the Supreme Court of Victoria, the Federal Court of Australia and the High Court of Australia.

Chris was the editor of the Tasmanian Reports for several years. He is an Army Reserve legal officer and a qualified mediator. He is a former President of the Tasmanian Bar.

Chris was previously the Deputy Chairperson and a member of the Forest Practices Tribunal established under the Forest Practices Act 1985 (Tas); a former member of the Tasmanian Attorney-General’s Sentencing Advisory Council; a member of the Council of the Tasmanian Bar; and a member of the Law Society of Tasmania’s Litigation Committee and the Mediation & Arbitration Committee.

Chris was appointed senior counsel on 20th June 2016.
