Olivia (Olive) practises in criminal law, administrative law and regulatory law. She appears regularly in the Magistrates’ Court and the County Court and has appeared in trials (led and unled). She also has a particular interest in appellate crime, having appeared in the Court of Appeal (led).
Her judicial review practice includes migration law. Some of her cases include:
Olive accepts briefs for written and oral advocacy in matters involving investigations, prosecutions, and enforcement actions brought by Victorian and Commonwealth regulators. She welcomes briefs from regulatory bodies and local councils. Olive is also available to be briefed in coronial inquests and disciplinary tribunal proceedings. Olive is adept at handling complex regulatory schemes.
Prior to joining the Bar, Olive was a Senior Federal Prosecutor. She worked at the CDPP for nearly eight years mainly as a solicitor advocate, in various crime types including fraud, bankruptcy, drug importations, money laundering, cybercrime, child exploitation, firearms trafficking, human trafficking and slavery.
Olive has also worked at Victoria Legal Aid, Office of the Police Ombudsman (SA), Department of Children and Families (NT) and in private practice. Additionally, she was a Judge’s Associate to former Chief Justice Brian Martin and Justice Barr of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory.
Olive has a special interest in International Humanitarian Law having undertaken legal internships at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in the Hague and the United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials in Cambodia.
Olive has a Master of Laws (LLM) with Merit from the University of London and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with First Class Honours from the University of Adelaide.
Olive read with Shaun Ginsbourg SC and her senior mentors are Daniel Gurvich KC and Rowena Orr KC (now a Judge of the Victorian Court of Appeal).
