About

Janine is a versatile and experienced barrister who has appeared in all Victorian state jurisdictions and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal during her 30-year career. She is practical and has a very hands-on approach to her work and is well known for her down to earth manner, common sense, and excellent results.

Janine enjoys all aspects of advocacy, particularly in the Magistrates’ Court where she regularly appears in public interest immunity matters, Open Courts Act matters, family violence and personal safety intervention order matters as well as general crime and traffic offences. She also appears on behalf of parties in inquests and in County Court pleas and appeals, including intervention order appeals.

In late 2012, Janine took a leave of absence from the Bar to take up her appointment as Deputy Public Interest Monitor. In this role, she appeared in respect of applications for coercive warrants and orders made by investigative bodies pursuant to the Public Interest Monitor Act (2011) (Vic). Janine returned to the Bar in early 2020.

Prior to joining the Bar, Janine was a senior prosecutor with Victoria Police.

From March 2021, Janine commenced co-authoring Summary Offences in Victoria, published by Thomson Reuters.

Janine edits the drug offences chapter in the Springvale Legal Service’s Lawyers Practice Manual (Victoria) as well as commentating on numerous other criminal law topics.

Janine is on the Victorian Bar: International Advocacy Committee in 2024. Janine also assists Basketball Victoria with Member Protection and Appeals Tribunals.
