About

Alison has an established commercial practice at the Victorian Bar, advising and appearing in a variety of matters across Victorian and Federal Courts. Alison is also an experienced and sought after mediator.

 

Advisory

Alison advises on a wide range of commercial matters. She has a special interest in property rights arising from complex commercial transactions, including those arising from commercial leases, guarantees, partnership agreements, security deeds, shareholder agreements, franchise agreements, product development agreements, co-ownership of land, as well as the sale of land, shares and businesses. She is particularly adept at recognising and applying the equitable aspects of commercial transactions.

Court work

Alison is an experienced advocate in proceedings concerning contractual disputes, trusts, guarantees, directors’ duties, recovery of loans and enforcement of security.

She appears in Court regularly in personal and corporate insolvency matters, frequently in relation to voidable transactions under both the Corporations Act and Bankruptcy Act.

Mediation

Alison appears as an advocate or as a mediator in mediations. She has a commercial and collaborative approach in mediations and enjoys working closely with solicitors in this process.

As an Advanced Bar Mediator and Nationally Accredited Mediator, Alison is regularly appointed as mediator to assist in the resolution of a variety of disputes concerning contracts, real property, sporting and other community associations, consumer claims, insolvent trading, breach of directors’ duties and oppression cases.

Alison appears on the List of External Mediators managed by the Magistrates Court of Victoria and a coach and assessor for those seeking national accreditation in the Victorian Bar’s mediation course known as the Lawyers Mediation Certificate.

Recognition

Alison was the 2023 recipient of the Victorian Bar Susan Crennan AC KC Award for outstanding achievement in pro bono advocacy. She was also shortlisted for Barrister of the Year in 2023, in the Lawyer’s Weekly Women In Law Awards.

Alison has been an LIV Accredited Specialist in Commercial Litigation since 2004.
