Amanda accepts briefs in a broad range of commercial law and regulatory matters. A selection of cases is set out below. Amanda is the co-author of Civil Penalties in Australia (2025, LexisNexis) – the first comprehensive Australian textbook on civil penalty proceedings.

Commercial and equity: including contractual disputes, resulting trusts and constructive trusts, commercial trusts, restraint of trade litigation and injunctions. Recent examples include:

• DLH Property Trust v Bella Joll Pty Ltd & Anor (2024) – misleading and deceptive conduct, restitution and set-off (County Court led by Peter Wallis KC).

Regulatory (including civil penalties): including civil penalty proceedings and advising individuals and companies regarding regulatory investigations. Amanda is regularly briefed on matters concerning Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates, including judicial reviews and urgent injunctions. Recent examples include:

• Australian Securities and Investments Commission -v- Westpac Banking Corporation [2023] FCA – Civil penalty proceeding under National Consumer Credit Protection Act and National Credit Code (appearing for ASIC, judgment reserved, led by Cam Truong KC).
• Australian Competition and Consumer Commission v Veli Velisha Fresh Produce Pty Ltd (2025) – civil penalty proceeding for alleged cartel conduct (appearing for third and eighth respondents, proceeding ongoing, led by Dr Michelle Sharpe).

Financial services and the Australian Consumer Law: including regulated consumer credit, unconscionable lending, financial products, financial services, cryptocurrency, insurance, and advising and appearing for scam victims. Recent case examples:

Property and leasing: including caveat removal applications, retail leasing disputes, owner’s corporation disputes, contracts for the sale of land. Recent examples include:

Insolvency: including appearing at compulsory examinations, appearing at winding-up applications and trials, and applications to set aside statutory demands.

General litigation (including class actions): Amanda regularly appears in strike out applications, applications to set aside default judgment, and injunctions. Amanda has experience in class actions including recent class actions against issuers of consumer credit insurance, and class actions alleging the tort of nuisance.

Amanda holds a Masters in Law from the University of Melbourne, specialising in commercial law. Amanda is a director of Southside Justice (formerly St Kilda Legal Service) (2020 – current) and was member of the Victorian Bar Pro Bono Committee (2022 – 2024).

Amanda read with Dr Michelle Sharpe in 2021 and her senior mentor was Cam Truong KC.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Amanda practiced as a solicitor for 13 years in the areas of consumer law, consumer credit law, banking and finance law, bankruptcy and corporate insolvency.
