Cameron was called to the bar in 2013 after working for a period as a solicitor-advocate in criminal law, and later family law in Melbourne. Cameron relocated to Tasmania in 2013 and has taken briefs in Melbourne periodically since that time, appearing in the Victorian Magistrates and County Courts.

Cameron Scott primarily specialises in criminal law and advocacy undertaking hearing and trial work and sentencing matters in a wide range of criminal matters including sexual assault and serious violent crime, dishonesty crimes including fraud, as well as family violence cases. Cameron’s Tasmanian criminal practice involves regular appearances as Counsel in hearings in the Tasmanian Magistrates Court and jury trials and sentencing hearings in the Supreme Court of Tasmania. Cameron also appears as Counsel in the Tasmanian Court of Criminal Appeal.

Additionally, Cameron practices in Family Law (Children and Property) matters, and has a breadth of experience in dealing with cases involving family violence, sexual assault allegations including in relation to children, and property matters where family violence is a relevant factor.

Cameron is an experienced barrister in Testator’s Family Maintenance (Family Provision) cases. Cameron has a proven track record of defending estates against unreasonable claims on the bounty of the estate, as well as achieving generous settlements for eligible applicants e.g. disabled adult children.

Cameron is passionate about the development of sound criminal law policy and evidence-based reforms and has served as a member of the Law Society of Tasmania’s Criminal Law Committee since 2016, and he is also a current serving member of the Council of the Tasmanian Bar Association.
