About

Sagorika specialises in employment law and industrial relations, having practised almost exclusively in this area since admission.

She has a special interest in complex employment disputes such as misleading and deceptive conduct claims, and disputes involving the interface between the Fair Work Act 2009 and other statutes, for example, the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013.

Sagorika welcomes briefs to appear in, and advise on, all matters involving employment and industrial relations law. She regularly appears in the Fair Work Commission, Federal Court, and Federal Circuit and Family Court in Victoria and interstate.

Sagorika also accepts pro bono and low-cost briefs across a range of areas including human rights, migration, and consumer law.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Sagorika worked as a legal practitioner in private practice advising and representing either employer or employee clients in a broad range of employment law disputes including general protections, restraint of trade, and age discrimination matters.

From 2021 to mid-2022, Sagorika was an associate at PCL Lawyers and Hentys Lawyers in Victoria. In these firms, Sagorika represented a variety of clients, from large multinational employers to individual employees, undertaking front-end advisory work and managing litigation files. The front-end advisory work included providing advice on awards and enterprise agreements, conducting workplace investigations, drafting enterprise agreements, and negotiating with the opposing party. Her litigious portfolio involved representing clients in the courts and Fair Work Commission, drafting pleadings, and providing litigation strategy.

From 2018-2020, Sagorika lived in England where she undertook the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme to become a Solicitor of England and Wales. During that period, Sagorika continued to practise employment law in a tier one firm, gaining invaluable insight and experience in a parallel legal system.

From 2015 to late 2018, Sagorika worked as a lawyer at McDonald Murholme where she was involved in employment law litigation at all levels. At McDonald Murholme, Sagorika regularly appeared in the Fair Work Commission, Federal Circuit Court, Federal Court, VCAT, and the Magistrates’ Court, having conduct of litigious matters from inception to completion.

Other than private practice, Sagorika has extensive experience volunteering in community legal centres including AED Legal and Monash Springvale Legal Centre in Victoria.

Sagorika is passionate about human rights, speaks three languages, and has been published in Oxford Public International Law (Online Journal) and Rapporteur.

When not practising law, Sagorika is an adventure sports enthusiast, spending most days either rock climbing, or when season permits, snowboarding.

Sagorika read with Michael Doyle and Simon Blewett (SA Bar).
