Commenced employment in 1979 in the Victorian Dept of Transport (Solicitor for Railways Office). In 1988, appointed industrial relations advocate (Public Transport Corporation). From June 1990 to November 1997 employed as a solicitor with the firm AJ Macken & Co. Melbourne.During his seven years with AJ Macken,  he frequently appeared as an advocate in the (former) Employee Relations Commission of Vic, the (now named) Fair Work Commission, the Vic Equal Opportunity Commission and the Federal Court of Australia. During this period he provided advice to a diverse range of associations, companies, government departments, independant contractors, senior executives and award level employees, particularly on contracts of employment. contracts for service, industrial awards and workplace and enterprise agreements. As a Barrister since 1997, his practice includes advocacy in the Supreme, County and Magistrates Courts and the Federal and Federal Circuit Courts and the Fair Work Commission, the provision of legal advice and opinions, drafting legal documents and the provision of mediation services. He is a founding member of the Victorian Industrial Bar Association (since 2004) having held variously, the offices of President, Senior Vice-President, Vice-President and Secretary.
