About

Edwina practises predominantly in general commercial litigation with a particular interest in bankruptcy and corporate insolvency. Her practise also includes banking and finance law, real property, equity, trusts, consumer and contract law.

Her appearance work has included appearing unled in a three day trial in the County Court of Victoria, acting for the defendant in respect of a breach of deed of guarantee and indemnity.  She has also appeared unled in small trials in the Victorian Magistrates Court, applications both to wind up and to oppose winding ups in the Federal Court and the Federal Circuit Court (Victorian Registry), VCAT hearings, and appearing in applications in all jurisdictions, including the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Edwina practised as a solicitor in commercial litigation in the Victorian, New South Wales and South Australian jurisdictions. She regularly appeared and advised in general commercial, insolvency and corporate matters, including:

  • Acting for the defendant in the matter of Fonterra Brands (Australia) Pty Ltd v Viropoulos (No 3) [2015] FCA 1050 before Justice Robertson of the Federal Court of Australia, in which her client was successful in having the claim dismissed with indemnity costs.
  • Instructing in and acting for Rabobank Australia Ltd in the matter of Sundara Pty Limited & Ors [2015] NSWSC 1694 before Justice Black of the New South Wales Supreme Court, in which the applicant sought leave to bring a derivative action in his capacity as former director of three companies now in liquidation against her client.
  • Acting in numerous administrations and liquidations including national construction companies, a multi-national solar energy company, and incorporated associations.
  • Appearing unled and acting in secured and unsecured recovery disputes for major Australian banks and international financial institutions.
  • Acting and appearing in shareholder and partnerships (including minority shareholder oppression claims), personal and corporate insolvency matters, trust and equity disputes and consumer disputes.

Edwina was also associate to the Honourable Justice Anderson of the Supreme Court of South Australia.

Edwina holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of International Studies from the University of Adelaide. She is reading with Peter Fary. Her senior mentor is Jonathan Evans QC.

Edwina is on the Women Barristers’ Association Management Committee and the Women in Insolvency and Restructuring Victoria (WIRV) subcommittees of Professional Development and Advocacy.
