James practices in commercial law.

Prior to joining the Bar, James worked as a litigation and dispute resolution lawyer at K&L Gates for six years. As a solicitor, James defended a number of Australian and international companies in complex commercial litigation across a wide range of industries, including corporate and commercial disputes, contractual disputes, consumer protection law, construction and property disputes, professional liability, occupier liability, negligence, insurance liability, debt recovery and defamation.

Some of James’ representative experience includes acting for Crown Melbourne Limited (Crown Casino), Esso Australia Pty Ltd and Westpac General Insurance. James has also acted for the Legal Practitioners’ Liability Committee in defending Victorian lawyers in professional negligence matters in all Victorian jurisdictions.

Since coming to the Bar, James has been briefed to act on a range of complex matters, including class actions, insolvency, intellectual property, misleading and deceptive conduct, fraud, contract law, construction law, and corporations law. James has worked on cases in various jurisdictions, including the Federal Court of Australia, the Supreme Court of Victoria, the County Court of Victoria, the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. James has also worked on regulatory and disciplinary matters (both advice and appearance work) involving the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and the Appeals Tribunal of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

James has published articles in the CommBar Newsletter and the ARITA journal. He is a reporter for the Federal Law Reports and the Victorian Law Reports.

James read with Dr Oren Bigos, and his senior mentor is Paul Anastassiou QC (as his Honour then was).
